A massive earthquake took place in Afghanistan, killing at least 250 people and injuring numerous others.

Pictures shared on social media showed people on stretchers, rubble, and ruined homes in Paktika province.


More than 250 people have already died, and the number of injured people is expected to escalate, a local government official told the BBC.
The earthquake occurred about 44 kilometers (27 miles) away from the city of Khost in the southeast.
According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre, which was cited by Reuters, tremors were felt along more than 500 km of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India.
According to the center, witnesses claimed to have felt the quake in Islamabad, Pakistan, as well as Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan.
