According to some reports Bollywood movie star couple – Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh – is one of the contenders who will bid for a new IPL group in the 15th edition of the profit making tournament. BCCI, in its efforts to increase the number of teams of the highly watched and loved Indian Premier League (IPL) in the 2022 version, can truly extrade the dynamics of T20 cricket in the upcoming months. With the race to bid for the two new franchises hotting up, there are some pretty thrilling names which have arisen to own a team in the profitable T20 league – IPL.

Winnings bids to be between $325-$425 Million

Earlier it was reported that Manchester United owners, the American Glazer family, an unknown Pharma giant, Adani Group and the RP-Sanjeev Goenka Groups had been in the fray to bid for the brand new IPL teams. However, in line with a record in Outlook, the brand new to throw off their hat in the mix are Deepika and Ranveer who might turn up in owning a team in the IPL alongside Man United – a dark-horse so far. Winning bids may be anywhere between $375 to $425 million each team for a 10 years license. What does this mean? The BCCI will make around 3000-3500 Crores per team.

If this deal is finalized, it’s not going to be something very new as IPL and Bollywood stars have a robust connection. Kolkata Knight Riders is co-owned by Bollywood celebrity Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla whilst Preity Zinta has stakes in Punjab Kings along with the Wadia group.

A statement released by bidding official

An official who is supposed to be involved in the bidding process said “The Adani Group and the RP-Sanjeev Goenka Groups are no more the ‘favourites’ to walk away with the new teams. There are some serious bidders willing to spend money on the world’s most lucrative T20 cricket league.”

BCCI is all ready to launch the Tender invitation in Dubai on October 25, on the same day whilst new IPL groups are supposed to be announced.

“The BCCI is not keen to give the rights to an off-shore company and will prefer Indian buyers but power equations can change the script dramatically,” added a source about the bid, reports Outlook.

“Among those who have picked up bid documents are pharma companies like Torrent Pharma and Aurobindo Pharma. A Singapore-based private equity firm and US-based venture capitalists have also shown interest. Naveen Jindal (Jindal Power and Steel) and entrepreneur Ronnie Screwvala are also keen.”

BCCI has scheduled the announcement of the results in Dubai on October 25, a day after the T20 World Cup blockbuster between India and Pakistan.
