Another case of Assam police encounter came forward on Friday night, where a dacoit was shot in the leg at Lakhimpur.
The accused was allegedly involved in an ATM seizure case. The accused has been identified as Rakesh Pegu.
Accused tried to flee from custody
Police arrested him last night and tried to bring him to the station. On their way, the police open fire at the accused, while he was trying to flee from custody.
Accused admitted in Hospital
However, for further treatment, the accused have been admitted to North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital.
According to reports, there are many cases against Pegu reported in Assam as well as in different police stations of Arunachal Pradesh.
Increasing dacoit cases in Assam
There is an increasing number of dacoit cases in Assam, Also previously a report came where two dacoits were gunned down in Assam during a police encounter.
According to officials, the incident took place during the curfew hours, imposed as part of Covid-19 restrictions, and investigation is on for two more persons who escaped.
However, the 2 alleged dacoits were killed and one was injured in a gunfight with the Assam police after a high-speed car chase in Goalpara district.
