Cabinet clears Proposal: Last year Prime Minister Modi, during his Independence Day speech last year, had made a mention of the proposal. The proposal was to raise the minimum age of marriage for women from 18 to 21. On Wednesday, it has been cleared by the Union Cabinet Wednesday.

About the Cabinet clears Proposal

According to NDTV, a year after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the plan is under analysis.

Modi said, “This government is constantly concerned about the health of daughters and sisters. To save the daughters from malnutrition, they must be married at the right age.”

Currently, the minimum age of marriage for men is 21 and for women, it is 18. For this, the government is planning to bring changes to the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, Special Marriage Act, and the Hindu Marriage Act to bring the plan into action.

In December, the recommendations were proposed as the task force worried that a woman must be at least 21 years at the time of first pregnancy.
