The Bombay High Court stated that a “woman cannot be asked to choose between her child and her career.” The order was made in relation to an order that refused the mother to relocate with her daughter to Poland.
As per reports, the single-bench of Justice Bharti Dangre heard the petition that was filed by the woman seeking to relocate to Poland along with her nine-year-old daughter.
Bombay High Court makes statement regarding woman choosing her child and career
The woman works with a private firm in Pune. The order was opposed by the husband, claiming that if the child moves away from the father thus affecting the father-daughter bond.
The court said, “There has never been, nor will there ever be, anything quite so special as the love between a daughter and her father.”
The court further aimed to strike a balance between the career prospects of women and said, “I do not think that the court can refuse the job prospects to a mother who is inclined to take up the job and she cannot be deprived of this opportunity.” He further stated, “It is also not uncommon for a working woman to leave her child in a day-care facility, on account of her responsibilities.”
