The counting of votes for 5 Assembly seats, polled during the Assam bye-election 2021 has been underway from Tuesday, 8 am onwards, however, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leading in 3 Assembly seats while the United People’s Party, Liberal (UPPL) is leading in 2 seats.
Leading candidates
Whereas, BJP candidate Sushanta Borgohain is leading in Thowra seat, party candidates Rupjyoti Kurmi and Phanidhar Talukdar are leading in Mariani and Bhabanipur seats respectively.
Jiron Basumatary of BJP ally United People’s Party, Liberal (UPPL) in Gossaigaon seat
is leading and Jolen Daimary of UPPL is leading in Tamulpur.
Number of Votes against opponent
According to the latest official update, BJP’s Sushanta Borgohain in the Thowra constituency is leading by 6586 votes against Raijor Dal candidate Dhaijya Konwar.
Moreover, in Mariani, BJP nominee Rupjyoti Kurmi is leading by 8865 votes against his closest rival Luhit Konwar of Congress.
BJP candidate Phanidhar Talukdar in Bhawanipur is leading by 13054 votes against Sailendra Nath Das of Congress.
Jiron Basumatary in Gossaigaon is leading by 7078 votes against his opponent, Dhruba Kumar Brahma of Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF).
However, in the Tamulpur seat, Jolen Daimary UPPL candidate is leading by 5693 votes against independent candidate Ganesh Kachary.
