Batadrava Police Station in Nagaon was set ablaze by a violent and angry mob. The incident took place on the 21st of May 2022. The mob have also reportedly assaulted the cops.
Batadrava Police Station set ablaze
As per reports the reason for the assault has been sited after a person reportedly died while in police custody.
The mob comprising of both men and women stormed into the Batadrava Police Station. Many visuals surfaced on the internet. The angry mob physically assaulted a couple of policemen who were on duty and later set the Police Station on fire.
The violent mob reportedly injured 2 policemen. According to Sentinel Assam, A local resident said, ” The scenes were absolutely terrifying as the mob of around 2,000 people both men and women included stormed Batadhrava police station after the alleged death of a person named Safikul Islam, a fish trader who allegedly died in police custody. The mob then started assaulting the policemen on duty and later set Batadrava Police Station on fire.”
The family of the accused said that the officials demanded a sum of Rs 10,000 and a duck for his release.
