The Guwahati Railway Police seized a consignment of illegal Burmese Cigarettes on Monday. The consignment worth lakhs in the black market and the persons involved in the smuggling were nabbed from the Kamakhya Station in Guwahati.
Burmese Cigarettes seized in Fancy Bazar
A total of two people have been arrested by the Police on the grounds of being involved in smuggling.
As per reports from Pratidin Times, the arrested individuals have been in for questioning and on the basis of the information provided by them, the Guwahati Police conducted raids in the area.
The report from the Police Department of Fancy Bazar states a huge quantity of illegal cigarettes were seized from a store named Pokhraj and two others in the area.
The store contained a huge quantity of Burmese Cigarettes that were worth lakhs. A total of six people have been detained by now.
In a similar incident, one Ashok Kumar Jain has also been detained by the Police Department for storing cigarettes worth 2 lakh in his warehouse. As per reports, these cigarettes were smuggled in through Northeastern borders connecting to Myanmar. These are then transported to other parts of India – Siliguri, Darjeeling and Kolkata.
