Balkis Bano Case: The SC has agreed to consider the challenging and the most talked case – granting remission to 11 convicts involved in the case on Tuesday.

The Government of Gujarat released the 11 convicts on Independence Day. The convicts were sentenced under charges of gang rapping five women. The convicts were released after the grant for remission was accepted.
A bench headed by Chief Justice N V Ramana took note of factors such as age, and that all the convicts had already served a time of 14 years in prison.
Advocate Kapil Sibal said, “We are only challenging the remission and not the Supreme Court order. The supreme court order is fine, My Lords. We are challenging the principles on the basis of which remission was granted.”
