The miraculous discovery of a newborn baby in a village pond

In a remote village of Khataua, located under the Nawabganj police station in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district, a shocking incident took place that left the entire community stunned. On Friday, a two-day-old baby girl was found alive in a pond, despite being thrown in to drown. What’s more surprising is that she was saved by a water hyacinth, which cushioned her head and kept her afloat until she was discovered.

This incident comes just a week after a similar case of a day-old baby boy being rescued from a 20-foot-deep dry well in Budaun district. These incidents highlight the alarming rise in child abandonment cases and the need for strict laws to prevent such atrocities.

According to reports, former village head Vakeel Ahmad was on his way to his agricultural field when he heard the cries of a baby coming from the nearby pond. On closer inspection, he found a newborn baby girl wrapped in a piece of cloth and submerged in neck-deep water. The baby was at a distance of nearly five meters from the pondside, indicating that she was thrown into the water with the intent of killing her.

Baby dumped in pond

Ahmad said, “The baby girl was found wrapped in a piece of cloth and she was immersed in neck-deep water. She was at a distance of nearly five meters from the pondside and was possibly thrown in the water by someone who wanted her dead but the almighty saved her life. Water hyacinth saved her despite remaining in the pond for hours.”

Ahmad immediately called the police, and a team led by Sub-inspector Sumer Singh and lady constable Mausam Devi arrived at the scene. They took custody of the child and admitted her to a community health centre in Nawabganj. Fortunately, the baby had no injuries and was later referred to the district hospital for further check-ups.

The incident has left the entire community in shock, with locals describing it as nothing short of a miracle. A video of the girl being rescued, covered in hyacinth, has gone viral in local circles, garnering immense attention and support for the little one.

The police are now investigating the matter and trying to find out who dumped the baby and when. Additional SP (rural) Rajkumar Agarwal has assured that strict action will be taken against the perpetrators, and justice will be served.

Baby named “Ganga” and placed in foster care

The baby was handed over to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and shifted to a foster home in Bareilly city. The CWC named the baby girl ‘Ganga,’ as she was found in a pond. The child will remain in Warne Baby Fold till further notice, and her parents can claim her by approaching the CWC and showing the required documents within 72 hours.

This incident has once again highlighted the need for better child protection laws and stricter punishment for those who commit such heinous crimes. Child abandonment cases are on the rise in the country, and it is the responsibility of the government and society as a whole to ensure the safety and well-being of every child.

The little girl, who survived against all odds, has become a symbol of hope and resilience for many. Her miraculous escape is a reminder that every life is precious and deserves to be protected. The community has come together to support her, and it is hoped that she will grow up to live a happy and fulfilling life, free from any harm or danger.
