The Indian Railways introduces foldable Baby Berths on some of the train journeys to make the mothers feel comfortable throughout the journey.
Baby Berths in Indian Railways
The new initiative taken up by the Indian Railways department was launched on a trial basis on the occasion of Mother’s day. The berths were introduced in an AC three-tier coach of Lucknow mail 12230 from berths 12 to 60 so that all new mothers can sleep peacefully with their newborns.
A tweet was shared by the Indian Railways on their social media handle that said, “On Mother’s Day, Lucknow Divn. of N. Rly. introduced a baby berth on an experimental basis in Coach No. 194129/B4, berths No 12 and 60. This will facilitate mothers travelling with their babies. The fitted baby seat is foldable and secured with a stopper. ”
According to the reports from NDTV, as of now, no mechanism is present that enables a traveller to book a baby berth. However one can approach the ticket inspector and swap seats.
