To make the Transportation Department’s services more transparent and user-friendly, Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma has urged the Transport Department and DTOs (District Transport Officers) to “put the maximum transport services online”. The CM also debuted the “Online Learner-License Facility from Home” as well as the “m Vahan with Fitness” service.
On Friday, the DTOs met at the Assam Administrative Staff College for a review meeting. The Chief Minister also unveiled the contactless online ‘Learner-License Facility from Home’. While the NIC-developed mVahan app is an android-based application for giving vehicle fitness certificates for registered Transport vehicles. This program will make the procedure of vehicle fitness testing much more convenient for the general public, as well as reduce the time it takes to obtain a vehicle fitness certificate.
“Towards responsible government, it is vital to have a rigorous scrapping policy,” the CM added on Twitter. “It’s great to hear that the Department of Transportation will have a new partner for registered car scrapping. In Rangia, a collection and dismantling center for End-of-Life Vehicles would be built for Rs 75 crore.”
