Along with the other parts of Assam, Lakhimpur has also been gaining momentum in the fight against illicit liquors and banned substances. Many drug peddlers have been arrested within months and various illicit liquor dens are also destroyed.
On July 19, the police had arrested a 19-year-old woman with possession of suspected heroin from the Laluk area of Lakhimpur district. The woman was arrested during an operation at No. 2 Kehutoli villages under the Laluk police station on July 19. The arrested woman was identified as Sarifa Begum and was found with 6.91 grams of drugs hidden inside her clothes along with a cash amount of Rs 18,300.
Earlier a notorious ganja dealer was arrested from Bhoma Amlakhi in Dhakuakhana along with 21 kg of cannabis. He was identified as Paris Kutum alias Gavaskar. The police have also been gaining the upper hand in the operations against illicit liquor dens.
The police on July 19 arrested Deba Nath and Tulsi Chetry from Dolohat and Chawldhowa area for dealing in illicit liquor. In Borimuri and Rongpuria areas on the outskirts of North Lakhimpur, illicit liquor dens were also destroyed that were used to prepare counterfeit liquor.
