In order to provide better healthcare, the Assam government has divided the Assam health and family welfare department into two departments: the health and family welfare department, and the medical education and research department.

“The Governor of Assam is happy to reorganize the present health and family welfare department into two independent departments for the sake of public service,” said a notification published by the Assam Government reforms, training, pension, and complaints department on Thursday.
The directorate of health services (DHS); directorate of health services (family welfare); directorate of Ayush; National Health Mission; Food Safety and Drug Administration; Assam State AIDS Control Society (ASACS); and all nursing schools are among the directorates/subjects under the Assam Government control of the health and family welfare department.
Similarly, the directorate of medical education, all medical colleges and hospitals, dental colleges, nursing colleges, pharmacy and paramedical institutes under the directorate of medical education, and government Ayurvedic and homeopathic colleges are all under the administrative control of the medical education and research department.
Assam Cancer Care Foundation; Atal Amrit Abhijan (AAA) Society/Pradhan Mantrir Jan Arogya Yojana; Assam Employees Health Scheme; Assam Health System Strengthening Project Society; Srimanta Sankardeva University of Health Sciences (SSUHS); and any other medical education or research institution.
“All correspondence relating to the existing health and family welfare department will now be made in the name of the new departments as per allocation,” according to the notification, which took effect immediately.
