Hare Krishna Deb Mahanta, the Founder Satradhikar of Barangajuli Sankar Dev Satra in Dimakuchi of Udalguri district, passed away due to age-old ailments on 18th July. It is said that Satradhikar Mahanta, on his personal efforts, built as many as 27 Satras across the state. He rendered his life in spreading the culture and tradition of Vaishnavism, and his efforts fetched him recognition. He was even honoured with the Kalicharan Brahma Award 2018 by the Assam government.
The highly-revered nonagenarian Satradhikar made efforts in integrating all the communities, including Rabha, Bodo, and Adivasi of the northern bank of the Brahmaputra, and built the Barangajuli Satra way back in 1952. As per reports, it is said that the Union minister of ports, shipping and waterways & AYUSH and former Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Assam Cabinet minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass frequently visited the Satra to seek blessings of Mahanta.
Moreover, Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, also visited the Barangajuli Satra during the campaigning of the Assam Assembly election 2021. He has expressed his deep condolences to family members at the demise of the Satradhikar of Barangajuli Sankar Dev.
He further informed that on 18th July, the Udalguri District Sahitya Sabha honoured him with the ‘Udalguri Ratna’ award at Barangajuli Satra. Asam Sahitya Sabha chief secretary and Karnadhar Samiti, member Thaneshwar Malakar, executive member Akhil Kalita, Bhadrakanta Sharma, Devraj Sapkota, vice-president of the Cultural Sub-Committee Tarun Azad Deka were present in the programme. Right after 11 hours of the award presentation, the socialist Satradhikar passed away at midnight.
