Prices of Liquor are likely to rise in Assam as the Assam State Government has taken the decision to hike Excise Duty to compensate Loss from VAT reduction on Petrol-Diesel.
Reduction in Petrol prices in Assam
After the rapid rise in Petrol prices, on November 3, the state government had announced the reduction in VAT on petrol and diesel by Rs 7 per litre, hours after the Centre reduced excise duty on fuel.
But the Government has had to incur losses after the reduction of prices, and so to compensate for the loss, the state decided to increase the price of petrol.
Rise in price of Alcohol
During the first wave of COVID-19, Alcohol prices in the state had gone up after the government decided to include a 25% cess on liquor.
The 25% COVID-19 cess was imposed on alcohol a year ago to meet healthcare expenses amid the pandemic.
