From the 8th of June, shops and business establishments in Itanagar will be closed on Wednesdays instead of Sundays.
The head of the All Itanagar Market Welfare Association (AIMWA), Dado Tajuk, indicated that the decision to close the shops and markets every Wednesday was made “collectively” by the association’s members.
He also asked the shopkeepers to launch a weekly cleanliness push on Wednesdays.
Shops and markets to remain open on weekends
The AIMWA recently met with the capital administration and proposed that the stores remain open on weekends, including Sundays, for the convenience of the employees.
The meeting attendees noted that employees in both the commercial and public sectors do not have time to shop because most stores close between 7 and 8 p.m.
When contacted, ICR deputy commissioner Talo Potom stated that the district administration had yet to issue an official order in this regard.
