ITANAGAR: Fisheries Assistant Director Obuk Mije was arrested with the aid of police on Wednesday, on charges of cheating and forgery as stated by his close acquaintance, who was victimized by him.
The person had given Mije Rs 5 lakh on a mortgage in 2015, but he did not refund regardless of repeated approaches. On insistence, Mije had issued a State Bank of India cheque worth Rs seven lakh dated 8th June 2016, however, wrote the date as 8th June 2018 below his signature.
Additionally, the cheque became no longer honored by the bank as ‘forged’.
