On Friday, India issues advisory for Indians in Canada to “exercise due caution and remain vigilant” against the sharp increase of hate crimes, sectarian violence and anti-India activities.
The advisory has been issued by the external affairs ministry amid a diplomatic row between India and Canada over the recent case of so-called referendum by “Pro-Khalistan” elements. The activities of the pro-khalistan elements that have been present in Canada has proved to be an irritant factor in bilateral ties in recent years.
Advisory for Indians in Canada
The advisory for Indians in Canada stated, “There has been a sharp increase in incidents of hate crimes, sectarian violence and anti-India activities in Canada. In view of the increasing incidences of crimes as described above, Indian nationals and students from India in Canada and those proceeding to Canada for travel/Education are advised to exercise due caution and remain vigilant. The external affairs ministry and India’s high commission and consulates in Canada have taken up these incidents with Canadian authorities and asked them to investigate the crimes and take appropriate action. The prepetrators of these crimes have not been brought to justice so far in Canada.”
Thus, all the Indian Nationals and students in Canada must register with the high commission in Ottawa or consultants in Toronto and Vancouver through their websites. Such registration will allow people living in canada to better connect with other Indians in Canada, in times of emergency.
India believes, the Canadian Government has not done enough to tackle the problem of New Delhi’s concern over pro-khalistani elements in Canada.
