Telecom operators will be required to provide pre-paid customers with recharge plans that are valid for 30 days, according to Trai on Thursday.
The change is expected to reduce the number of re-charges performed by a customer over a year.
Provides a voucher for the total estimated recharge in a year
In the pre-paid segment, telecom operators currently offer plans with a validity of 28 days, resulting in 13 recharges per year for customers who re-charge every month.
“Every telecom service provider shall offer at least one plan voucher, one special tariff voucher, and one combo voucher having a validity of thirty days,” Trai said in a notification.
Furthermore, telecom companies have been ordered to comply with the order within 60 days of being notified of the rules.
