A 20-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by some robbers on board the Lucknow-Mumbai Pushpak Express between Igatpuri and Kasara railway stations in Maharashtra at the Central Railway route, a police official informed on Saturday.
The incident happened on Friday night time i.e on October 8 and the Mumbai Government Railway Police (GRP) has arrested 4 people on this connection, the official said.
Quaiser Khalid, Mumbai GRP’s Police Commissioner, stated the alleged crime was done when the train was travelling across the ghat section.

To enlighten more on the information about the incident and the actions taken by the police, Mr Khalid said in a tweet, “The accused boarded Lucknow-Mumbai Pushpak Express at Igatpuri (Aurangabad Railway district) in sleeper bogie D-2 and started committing the crime through the Ghat area during the night.”
Police got a call when the train reached Kasara
When the express reached Kasara, the passengers called out to the police for help. The officer and personnel at GRP Mumbai straight away responded, he said. He said that 4 accused have been apprehended so far.
“The victim is twenty years old and she has been taken for medical examination by our lady officer. She is fine. We are collecting all the evidence. The accused are being questioned by our team. We are checking their previous records,” he said in another tweet.
The accused stole belongings of co-passenger belongings in the train
He said that the accused had stolen belongings worth Rs 96,390, which includes mobile phones, from the passengers of the train. Police have thus far recovered assets well worth Rs 34,200 from them, he said.
Sections imposed on the accused
The Mumbai GRP has registered an offence towards the accused below the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 395 (dacoity), 397 (theft or dacoity), 376(D) (gang rape), 354 (attack or use of crook pressure to any lady, proceeding to outrage her modesty), 354(B) (attack or use of crook pressure to any female or abetment of such act with the aim of disrobing or compelling her to be naked), and additionally below the Railways Act at Kalyan railway police station on Saturday, Mr. Khalid added.
