On the night of Monday, 2 cattle smugglers were gunned down by the Assam Police after an ambush with them. The incident occurred in Kokrajhar district of Assam.
Cattle smugglers encountered
In the struggle, 4 of the police officials were injured. The cattle smugglers were involved in an international market having connections with big parties. They have been identified as Akbar Banjara and Salman Banjara.
As per reports, the accused were said to be involved in international smuggling of cattles and the route that they used was through indo Bhutan border, crossing the Sankosh River. Many reports have further confirmed that ISI are also involved in the act. This transaction known as the Hawala Transaction has come to light as many militants from Assam and Meghalaya are sought to be involved.
The accused were taken to Jamduar area for investigation when both parties had to engage in gun firings. As the police officials opened fire, two of the smugglers sustained injuries. They were taken to the hospital but were declared upon arrival.
The weapons of the criminals were confiscated and one AK 47 rifle, magazines and 35 bullets were recovered.
