World Tourism Day Celebrated At Kaziranga National Park

World Tourism Day was being celebrated in Assam on September 27 with a focus on attracting more visitors to this North-east Region. Notably, the main celebration of World Tourism Day organised by the Assam government was held at Kaziranga National Park.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote on microblogging site Twitter, ”Blessed by Maa Kamakhya, adorned with pristine nature, dotted with traces of a wealthy past, rich cultural heritage & diversity, Assam is a paradise for tourists. On #WorldTourismDay, I extend my warm wishes & welcome everyone to visit & explore our beautiful and #AwesomeAssam.”

Meanwhile, State Tourism minister Jayanta Malla Baruah took to a micro-blogging site Twitter to mention Tourism day is observed to create awareness on the importance of tourism in influencing the socio-cultural, political and economic values of the international community.

He further said how the state experiences heavy footfall of religious tourists during Ambubachi Mela at Kamakhya temple, while others come to Assam to explore and enjoy nature and wildlife.

It is worth noting that the theme is Rethinking Tourism for this year. The Tourism minister urged people to rethink about tourism and work towards promoting sustainable tourism for building a better place.
