Punjab government has recently appointed VK Bhawra as new Director-General of Police.
Amongst a list of three candidates offered by the Union Public Service Commission Mr. VK Bhawra was chosen.

The appointment of Mr. Bhawra – the third in around 100 days of Chief Minister Charanjit Channi’s brief tenure. Also it came shortly before the Election Commission announces dates for next month’s polls.
It additionally comes after Punjab Police finds itself within the crosshairs of the centre over the safety lapses involving PM Narendra Modi’s convoy this week.
Viresh Kumar Bhawra will have a tenure of two years and replace Mr Chattopadhyaya. Mr. Chattopadhyaya himself was solely appointed in December as the Congress-ruled state’s prime cop.
