Assam’s rising star, Dr. Mayur Hazarika, graced The Assam Royal Global University with his presence today, captivating the audience with his inspiring journey and invaluable advice. Dr. Hazarika, who achieved a remarkable fifth position in the UPSC 2022 examinations, was warmly welcomed by Mr. Rabindranath Kalita, the Director of the Royal Centre for Career Counselling, Coaching, and Guidance, who congratulated him on his outstanding achievement.

During the interactive session, Dr. Hazarika emphasized the significance of selecting resources judiciously while navigating the overwhelming availability of study materials. He stressed the importance of aligning these resources with one’s learning style and comprehension abilities. Drawing from his own preparation experience, Dr. Hazarika encouraged the students to overcome obstacles and avoid making excuses regarding the scarcity of time for preparation. He also highlighted the significance of combining hard work with smart work and shared a list of resource materials he had utilized during his own journey.

Dr. Mayur Hazarika shares his list of suggested books and materials for various subjects

For Indian Polity, Dr. Mayur Hazarika recommended M. Laxmikanth’s book, while for Modern History, he suggested Sonali Bansal’s publication from Mc Graw Hills. For Ancient and Medieval History, he referred to Poonam Dalal Dahiya’s work. In the field of Geography, he recommended the PMF IS (2020) guide, and for Environment, he advised consulting PMF IS. Dr. Hazarika emphasized the importance of compiling data from various resources for subjects like Science and Technology, Internal Security, and International Relations. He highlighted the need to establish a strong foundation in Ethics by utilizing the Next IAS module. For Economics, he suggested Nitin Singhania’s book, and for current affairs, he recommended the daily reading of newspapers.

Dr. Hazarika advised his audience that while the number of mock tests attempted was flexible, revising everything studied was non-negotiable. He explained that the Prelims tested factual knowledge and the depth of that knowledge, while the Mains evaluated critical analysis abilities. However, it was the Personality Test or Interview round that Dr. Hazarika found most exciting, as it provided insight into the candidate’s personality.

Wishing the aspiring students the very best, Dr. Mayur Hazarika expressed his dream of witnessing more candidates from the Northeastern region attempt and succeed in this prestigious examination. Prof. (Dr.) S.P. Singh, the Honourable Vice Chancellor of Royal Global University, congratulated Dr. Hazarika on his remarkable achievement, acknowledging it as a significant inspiration for the region’s aspiring youngsters. The interactive session was attended by Prof. M.K. Chaudhuri, Advisor at The Assam Royal Global University, as well as other senior officials of the university.

Dr. Mayur Hazarika, a native of Tezpur in Assam, had already distinguished himself by securing top positions in the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and Higher Secondary (HS) examinations. After serving as a rural practitioner at a government hospital in Kaliabor, Assam, until mid-2022, he dedicated himself to preparing for the UPSC exam. Even before joining Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, where he completed his MBBS, Hazarika had a keen interest in joining the civil services. However, it was during his third and fourth year of medical college that he reignited his enthusiasm for civil services.

Remarkably, Mayur Hazarika embarked on his UPSC preparation journey through self-study, relying on online classes for guidance. His father, Krishna Hazarika, expressed their family’s astonishment and pride at his outstanding achievement, highlighting that without pursuing post-graduation, Mayur Hazarika was able to focus solely on preparing for this competitive examination.
