Amongst the list of Padma Shri awardees 2022 we have few unsung heroes as well.
These unsung heroes have contributed to society in their own ways.
They have many achievements to their credit and have worked tirelessly in their respective fields and have served the people.

This year’s list of unsung heroes includes:
1) S. Damodaran- for social work
2) Prokar Dasgupta- for medicine
3) Lourembam Bino Devi- for art and crafts
4) Malji Bhai Desai- for public affairs
5) S Ballesh Bhajantri- for art
6) Khandu Wangchuk Bhutia- for art
7) Maria Christopher Byrski- for literature and education
8) Sulochana Chavan- for art
About these Unsung heroes
Lourembam Bino Devi:
She is a Veteran Applique artist from Manipur who revived the art of Leeba motifs. She belongs from a humble rural background who has single-handedly kept alive the fast-fading art of ornamental needlework for five decades.
“Her motifs represent the culture of the Meitei community. Preserving the art by passing the knowledge to students which she herself has learnt from her mother-in-law,” her citation says.
Khandu Wangchuk Bhutia
63 years old Khandu Wangchuk Bhutia from Namchi, South Sikkim is being conferred with the prestigious award in Art Category.
He is one of the most prominent independent Thanka artist from Sikkim who has been practicing this art since the age of 15.
Bhutia learned the art under the guidance of his masters Zapa Acho and Phuntshok Sangpo and has passed the techniques and teaching of Thanka Art to almost 400 youths in Sikkim.
Further, S Damodaran was awarded for Social Work. He was born in 1952. Damodaran, was a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu.
Malji Bhai Desai, has also been honored with Padma Shri this year. He has been awarded for promoting khadi through his five decades in public service.
