The deput chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya of the Uttar Pradesh government has planned to initiate a uniform civil code in the state. The decision for a uniform civil code comes after the Amit Shah’s visit to the party office in Bhopal.
Uniform Civil Code in UP
As per the reports, from the deputy Chief Minister Maurya, “laws should be the same for all.. Our government is going to implement the uniform code. There is a serious discussion on this in all BJP-governed states. In addition, he said that “if all government schemes are being implemented uniformly for all sections of the society in the country in accordance with the approach of sabka saath, sabka vikas, then a common code must be implemented too”.
The deputy CM of UP further added that many non- BJP parties are only in the pursuit of gaining power rather than acknowledging the uniform code of idea. He stated that, “A uniform civil code is very important for UP as well as the rest of the country. The nullification of Article 370 , construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya and the uniform code have always been top priorities for BJP. If the opposition supports it, well and good; if they don’t , it does not we will not consider it. Article 370 was nullified even after the opposition didn’t support the government. The uniform code will be implemented in the same manner.”
According to Union Home Minister, a uniform civil code must be conducted in places like Uttarakhand as many issues like CAA, triple Talaq and article 370 has been resolved due to the uniform civil code.
