Tripura: Rifleman shot 2 seniors to death for not granting him leave

On December 5, a Tripura State Rifles (TSR) rifleman vehemently shot two of his seniors to death at Konaban Gas Collection Centre of ONGC in Sepahijala district. 

Identities of the characters: 

The accused is identified as Sukanta Das who’s a 38-year-old rifleman. The two victims are identified as Subedar Marka Singh Jamatia (49-year-old) and Naib Subedar Kiran Jamatia (37-year-old).

What lead to the murder?

As per sources, Das along with 16 others have been under the command of Kiran Jamatia. Das wanted to go on a leave but his application was stuck for the last few days as he had been selected for a refresher course therefore, he was advised to discuss the matter with Subedar Marka Singh.

When Das went to Singh asking to grant him leave on December 5, Singh directly rejected his prayer. After that Das allegedly got involved into a heated argument  Subedar Marka Singh and Naib Subedar Kiran Jamatia and opened indiscriminate fire from his service rifle. 

Marka Singh died on the spot, Jamatia succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.

About the murder: 

As per the reports, Sukanta Das surrendered himself at Madhupur police station along with the rifle that was used to shoot the victims after which he was arrested and produced infront of the court.
