Assam Chief Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a new scheme, ‘Swanirbhar Naari’ to empower indigenous weavers in Guwahati. The scheme was launched on Tuesday.

Assam CM launches Swanirbhar Naari Scheme

As per reports, the government is said to procure handloom items directly from the weavers via a web portal under the scheme.

The Chief Minister shared a post on his Twitter handle, “Happy to launch Swanirbhar Naari, a scheme to empower our indigenous weavers. Govt will procure handloom items directly from them through an online portal.”

This new scheme is said to preserve the heritage of the handlooms and textiles of the state.

The CM said, “I am sure this scheme will help preserve our heritage of handlooms and textiles by ensuring assured income to our weavers.”

The Minister further stated the PM’s love towards the gamusa and called for the department to generate more awareness on it.

He further wrote in his Twitter, “PM Narendra Modi’s love for Assamese has made it known far and wide. Taking advantage of the favourable ecosystem, I urge Handloom and Textile Dept to generate more awareness on Gamosa. I also urge all concerned to procure handloom-made gamusa only.”
