Guwahati has topped the rankings for all the wrong reasons, from rapes and murders to thefts and kidnappings recently.
On Tuesday, a 50-year-old man allegedly attempted to rape a juvenile girl in the city’s Pandu neighborhood, in yet another terrible incident.
The incident
According to reports, a notorious man named Jalaluddin broke into the minor’s residence in Pandu with the intention of raping her.
Meanwhile, the girl sounded an alarm, prompting nearby residents to rush to the scene and apprehend the offender.
For reportedly attempting to rape a juvenile girl, the mob tied up the man and assaulted him in broad daylight.
He was later turned over to the Jalukbari Police Station.
Another such recent case
The previous month, Police detained a 50-year-old man for reportedly raping a juvenile girl in Paneri, Assam’s Udalguri district.
According to reports, a 50-year-old man named Deepak Mahato allegedly raped a 10-year-old girl in her home.
When the crime occurred, both of the victim’s parents were at work, leaving her alone at home.
The accused took advantage of this and broke into the girl’s home, rapping her and coaxing her into giving 20 rupees.
She then told her mother about the experience. Her mother said that the accused sexually abused her minor daughter in exchange for 20 rupees.
The parents alerted the All Adivasi Students’ Association (AASA) local committee and filed a complaint with the Paneri Police Station against the culprit. The culprit was apprehended after the police filed a case in connection with the event.
The AASA urged that the accused be adequately punished.
Same case, different districts
Meanwhile, police in Jagiroad detained Rang Kumar Biswas of Chakumaku village in Morigaon district on accusations of attempted rape.
According to sources, the miscreant broke into a residence in the same area on the night of October 26th and attempted to rape a sleeping class IX student. The miscreant allegedly grabbed the girl but was thwarted as she screamed for help, according to the victim.
The criminal got away, but the girl was hurt because the boy, after foiling the attempt, struck her with a sharp knife. Locals later apprehended the culprit and turned him over to Jagiroad police. They urged that the perpetrator be brought to justice.
