Sudarsan Pattnaik, an international sand artist, made a massive sand sculpture of Santa Claus with over 5,400 flowers on the eve of Christmas at Puri beach.

Mr Sudarsan designed the Santa Claus with the inscription “Merry Christmas, Enjoy your Christmas with COVID guidelines” and an installation of red roses and other flowers.

Mr Sudarsan built the 50-foot-long, 28-foot-wide sand sculpture, which included 5,400 red roses and some white flowers. With the help of his sand art institute, he completed this sculpture in eight hours of carving and two days of preparation.

“We all know the third wave of COVID-19 has already started almost all over the world,” Sudarsan, a Padma Shri awardee, said. “So we created this sculpture where Santa is spreading a message of following COVID guidelines.”

“I’m hoping this will go down in history as a new record,” he remarked.
