As announced by the BCCI on December 8, Rohit Sharma will replace Virat Kohli as Captain in the further games of ODIs and T20Is.

Virat Kohli has already stepped down from captaining the T20I side after the Indian team’s debacle in T20 World Cup.

Statements from BCCI:

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee also decided to name Mr. Rohit Sharma as the Captain of the ODI and T20I teams going forward,” they said.

Statements by Kohli:

“I’ve been immensely proud of how the team has played. Now I think it’s time for the next lot to stake this team forward. Obviously Rohit is here and he’s overlooking things for a while now.

Further, BCCI had declared an 18-member squad for the upcoming three-match Test series which will go against South Africa.

Rohit was named as Test vice-captain of India for the tour of South Africa where India will play three Tests match.

Kohli in a tweet announced that he’s going to step down from his captaincy on September 16, 2021, through a tweet. Later, the BCCI confirmed that it’s Kohli’s decision and they honor it. They also said that there was no sort of pressure on Virat Kohli. However,  there were many experts who agreed with Virat Kohli’s message that he’s leaving the T-20 captainship for they wanted him to focus more on batting.
