Manipur: Commander-in-chief killed in Churachandpur district

On Friday, the commander-in-chief of Kukiland was killed in Churachandpur district which is located in Manipur. As per the reports he was proscribed Socialist Democratic Front of his respective district. The name of the commander-in-chief was Letingthang Haokip.

About the incident

On Friday, the incident occurred while acting on a tip-off 46 Assam Rifles personnel and police of  Churachandpur district rushed to the spot.

By the time the security personnel reached the spot which is in Khominthing Churachandpur the armed militant had already started firing. The security forces also fired after following them. Later the body of the commander-in-chief was recovered while the rest escaped from the place.

According to police, “The Kuki outfit is not a signatory to the government’s Suspension of Operations (SoO).”

In an encounter with police in Dhing, Nagaon, a dacoit and drug smuggler received bullet injury, said reports. Nur Hussain along with  24 attacked one Ujarat Ali. The Thing police also launched an operation to nab them.

Hussain was also seen trying to attack the police team while he was about to be caught by the police. According to the reports, the accused were fired upon by the police. In retaliatory firings, the dreaded dacoit was having a bullet injury. He was admitted to a hospital, sources claimed.

Unleashing of terror

Sources added that the terror in that area was now unleashed by Hussain and his gang. He was also caught involved in illegal land grabbing apart from being a dacoit and trafficking drugs. As per the sources, some dacoits have been noticed by the Assam police for the last 3-4 months. A suspected arms smuggler was also killed in an encounter while trying to escape. He was arrested in a joint operation by Border Security Force (BSF) and Assam Police in Karimganj district.
