Two people were killed and at least five were hurt in a recent mishap that took place in Manipur two days before the polls.
Bomb blast in Manipur:
Sources said that among the two deceased one was a child. An explosion bursted at a house in Churachandpur district during the late hours of February 26. The explosion in Gangpimual village appeared to have been caused by a mortar.
About the incident:
According to a district police official at least seven people including children were seriously injured in the blast and taken to the district hospital, where Mangminlal aged 6 and Langinsang aged 22, died of their injuries.
Senior police officials and reinforcements have rushed to the area and a search was on to catch those responsible.
The mishap that took place during the late hours of February 26, was the first major incident of violence after the Manipur assembly election dates were announced on January 8.
Assembly Elections, 2022:
Legislative Assembly elections has taken place in the state from 28 February to 5 March 2022 in two phases, to elect 60 members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly. The votes will be counted on March 10.
Earlier, in November, 2021, terrorists had carried out an IED blast to attack the convoy of 46 Assam Rifles Commanding Officer Colonel Viplav Tripathi and then fired at the vehicles in the Churachandpur area. The blast took place when the officer was returning with his convoy from a forward company base to his battalion headquarters.
