Horrific Case of Prolonged Abuse Unearthed in West Bengal; 68-Year-Old Man Arrested
In a deeply distressing incident near the India-Nepal border in West Bengal’s Darjeeling district, a 68-year-old man stands accused of perpetrating a month-long ordeal of sexual abuse against a young girl. The harrowing incidents took place within the Panishali gram panchayat, a region under the jurisdiction of Khoribari, and came to light when the victim, a fifth-grade student, bravely confided in her mother. Acting promptly, her mother lodged a First Information Report (FIR) with the Khoribari police station on Monday.
According to the filed FIR, the assaults occurred while the girl was alone at home. The accused, a local resident, allegedly provided her with Rs. 10 after each incident, further coercing her into silence by menacingly threatening her life if she were to disclose the assaults.
Promptly responding to the complaint, the police have launched an extensive investigation that led to the arrest of the accused. A case has been registered against him under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
In order to ensure the well-being of the victim, she has been immediately sent for a thorough medical examination at the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital. In another incident in Uttar Pradesh, a strange rape accusation was found. An eight-month pregnant 19-year-old woman was found strangled to death by her own parents, just before she was set to testify in court. The woman’s appearance was related to a case involving kidnapping and rape, in which her parents had lodged a complaint. The disturbing incident is believed to have been motivated by her refusal to provide a statement against her alleged partner in the case.
The woman and her partner who is framed to be accused of rape had eloped in October of the previous year. Following her discovery in December, her partner was arrested and subsequently detained. However, the situation took a turn when her parents, reportedly angered by her decision to refrain from testifying against the accused, took matters into their own hands.
The woman’s lifeless body was discovered discarded in a river located in Goyla village, under the jurisdiction of the Shahpur police station area. Law enforcement officials swiftly acted on the matter, apprehending the victim’s parents who staged the rape scene, who have now been arrested. Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjeev Suman confirmed that the parents have confessed to the murder. The charges brought against them are in accordance with section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
Scheduled to record her statement in court on the following day, Saturday, the woman did not appear. The SP revealed that the parents’ frustration with their daughter’s decision to withhold testimony against the accused ultimately led to this tragic outcome.
