Story behind India’s most loved show KBC: Amitabh Bachchan reveals “Wasn’t getting films”; Watch

Amitabh Bachchan turned to host the television quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) in the year 2000 when he wasn’t getting films. The show recently completed its 1000th episode.

In the episode, Shweta and her daughter Navya Naveli Nanda appeared as guests.

The name traverses any era. Every generation of individuals living in India have been entertained by one giant acting acumen.

From an angry young man in yesteryears and to a 70 year old in ‘Piku’ he has brought into frame characters that exist in each of us.

When and why KBC?

KBC aired in the year 2000. Actor Amitabh Bachchan has revealed that he took the decision to host Kaun Banega Crorepati as movie offers for him were very low then.

“I wasn’t getting films,” said Mr. Bachchan.

When asked by Shweta, he said, “It has been 21 years. The show began in 2000. At that time I had no idea. People warned me that moving from the big screen to the small screen would harm my image.

“My circumstances were such that I wasn’t getting any work in films at that time, but after the show premiered, the kind of reactions I received made me believe that the world changed for me”- revealed Amitabh Bachchan.

Needless to say, he acknowledged the fact that he learnt something from each and every contestant. 

The viewers of the show can relate to it as Mr. Bachchan is always seen indulging and encouraging each and every audience that gets the honour of sitting opposite to him. He never fails to share a laugh with the contestants.

Memories invoked

Glimpses of the game’s journey from 2000 till date were shown. As the video came to an end, Amitabh was seen getting emotional and wiping away his tears. 

Kaun Banega Crorepati is currently in its 13th season. Since it first aired on television, it has been hosted by Amitabh Bachchan. Only the third season saw actor Shah Rukh Khan taking over the reins. 

The prize money from season 1-6 was 1 crore but from season 7(2013) it was increased to 7 crores.

On the movie front, Amitabh Bachchan has several films lined up including Brahmastra, Runway 34 and a Hindi remake of the hit Hollywood movie The Intern.
