Indian Government has decided to make the fitness of vehicles mandatory before they are plied on road. This is to be mainly done through a phased manner from next year on wards.

The Indian government has decided to make the fitness of vehicle through the ATS or the automated testing stations mandatory in India from next year on wards.
The decision has come from to ensure that the heavy transport vehicles should be checked for fitness before they are plied on roads. This ensures less pollution from the vehicle on to the environment.
As per the reports from the higher officials at the Road transport and highways ministry, “Fitness testing for heavy goods and passenger vehicles are to be mandatory through ATS from April 1, 2023.”

For the safety and hazardious conditions of these vehicles, the smaller vehicles will have to go through the ATS from June 2024 on wards.
The tests generate a automated equipment to check the level of fitness of the vehicles before they are used for plying on the Indian road.
