Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visits the Beltola Murder site where the elderly couple was murdered on Monday night. Earlier in the day, the caretaker was charged under the Murder case.
Police are still looking for the other two people who also joined him in the dacoity which is recorded on CCTV.
An elderly couple was allegedly killed at their residence in the Chandan Nagar area, Beltola Survey, Guwahati by the robbers who barged into their house on Monday night.
According to reports, the victims are identified to be Noni Gopal Baruah (87) and Mina Baruah (76). The case at the moment is of presumed murder and theft.
According to the initial investigations, the property was entered through a shattered window, and numerous items were stolen from the house’s cupboards and other areas.
The doors leading to the rooms were also found broken. In their bed, the bodies were lying in a pool of blood and it is said a sharp weapon was used to smack the couple in the head which caused the death of the duo.
The Caretaker as usual went to serve breakfast in the morning when he found that the window grill was not there.
It was initially discovered when a passerby saw that the house’s door was locked until late in the morning, which is unusual. That’s when they went inside and discovered the pair in a pool of blood.
The elderly couple is survived by two daughters who are currently stationed outside Guwahati.
Since the past few days, various incidents of theft have been reported on a regular basis in the neighbourhood.
Arrest of the Caretaker
Police have arrested Akash Chowdhury, who is the caretaker of the elderly couple.
Briefing the media about the investigation, Commissioner of Police Harmeet Singh said that the caretaker has been arrested as “his involvement has been found.”
Caretaker’s wife Kutu Das was also picked up for interrogation. Along the Kutu Das, Satyaendra Singh and Paresh Chowdhury too were picked up by the police for interrogation.
The caretaker has been booked for Murder under IPC 302. He has also been booked for forceful entry under IPC 458 and Theft under IPC 380.
According to the Guwahati Police, his fingerprints matched the prints at the murder site. Police are looking for the other two people who also joined him in the dacoity which is recorded on CCTV.
Previously one of the four persons arrested who had been detained on Tuesday morning at their Beltola residence has been arrested by Guwahati police.
