On Sunday, the girl student who tried suicide on December 24 died. The student’s family has filed a complaint with Dispur police stating that Principal Das has harassed her emotionally.
According to reports, The Gauhati high court on Tuesday granted Jonali Das, the head of a city-based high school, anticipatory bail in this case where she was accused of verbally abusing a class VIII girl student, resulting to her suicide by falling from the school’s fifth floor.
Objecting to the bail, the police said the court that during the inquiry, the investigating officer discovered that the victim had a love relationship with Rishikesh Das, the accused principal’s nephew.
Story behind the suicide
According to police, on the day of the event, the school’s principal, Das, summoned the victim girl to her chamber and chastised her over the alleged love affair. According to authorities, the principal allegedly treated the victim badly in front of the guardian of the child Rishikesh Das, causing her mental pain, which led to her suicide by jumping from the building.
The court did emphasise, however, that the suicide note does not include any circumstances indicating that the petitioner meant to cause her student’s suicide.
“Only the emotional setback for the reason of the breakdown of the affair with stated Rishikesh Das is revealed in the suicide letter.” “The court’s assessment is a prima facie view, subject to what information is made available in the case diary,” the court stated.
The case diary will be due on January 10, 2022, according to the high court.
She was also told that she had a week to depose her statement. Meanwhile, members of the Deuri students organisation mounted a protest in Dispur’s Ganesh Mandir area, opposing her bail.
