Guwahati Police: ‘War on Drugs’ continues, 129 gms of heroin seized from ISBT

On Thursday November 25, Assam Police arrested two people and seized 129 grams of heroin at the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT), Guwahati. The operation was led by the office of Deputy Commissioner, West Guwahati Police District (WGPD).

Details of the Operation

During the operation, 10 soap boxes containing 129 grams of heroin were recovered by the police and these were brought by bus from Manipur, said Nabneet Mahanta  DCP (West) Guwahati,.

The accused were identified as Md Rekib of age 35 and Md Ibungo of age 34. Both the accused belong from Saraibam, Manipur.

According to an Official, Md Rekib is the driver of the bus which runs between Thoubal and Guwahati.

What Guwahati Police has to say?

Taking to Twitter, Guwahati police wrote, “A WGPD team led by the DCP arrested one Md Rekib (35) & another Md Ibungo (34), both from Saraibam, Manipur & seized 129 gms of heroin from their possession at ISBT, Guwahati today. Rekib is the driver of a bus (MN04 P 0844) that plies between Thoubal & Guwahati.”

Previously on November 24, Guwahati Police successfully seized of 50,000 ‘World is Yours’ (WY) tablets.

In a war against drugs, the city police a few days later under the guidance of Joint Commissioner of Police, Partha Mahanta intercepted a truck near Byrnihat in Meghalaya and seized half a kilo of heroin worth Rs 4 crores.

During the operation, three people in connection to the incident were arrested by the police. The arrested drug traffickers were identified as Ithemba Muslam and Ramesh Chetri of Manipur.
