Google paid tribute to Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, one of the legendary Assamese playback singer, lyricist, musician and filmmaker on his 96th Birth Anniversary with a doodle.
Dr. Hazarika passed away in the year 2011 and was known for his excellent work in hundreds of films and music. He also served as an MLA in the Assam Assembly between 1967 and 1972.
The doodle depicts Hazarika playing a harmonium. The doodle was created by Mumbai’s artist Rutuja Mali.
Contributions of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika
Born on 8th September 1926, in Assam’s Sadiya, Bhupen Hazarika was brought up in an environment where song writing and folk tales was encouraged. He recorded his first song at the age of 10.
He completed his Post Graduation from Banaras Hindu University in 1942 and thereafter moved to the United States to pursue his PhD from Columbia University in 1952.
He used to work at the All India Radio in Guwahati and translated Bengali songs to Hindi. He later composed a lot many of hit numbers. For his outstanding contribution to the Music Industry, he was awarded with Sangeet Natak Academi Award, Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Padma Shri and Padma Bhusan. In 2019, he was honoured with Bharat Ratna.
