The GMC or the Guwahati Municipal Corporation has provided a toll free number for all residents who faces any water logging issues in the city. Ahead of the monsoon season, the initiative has been taken by the Corporation to address the concerns of the people.
GMC’s initiative
As Guwahati has started receiving heavy showers, the water logging issues still persist. As a result of the crisis in the city, they have issued a toll free number in order to provide any kind of assistant in the monsoon season.
As per the post “to all the citizens of Guwahati, for any assistance needed due to water logging during the rainy season, please call GMC toll free helpline number 08811007000.”
The post was updated on the social media account of GMC to inform the general public regarding the help that they have initiated.
Right before the monsoon season, a drive was conducted by the GMC department to ensure the prevention of water logging issues in different parts of the city. The steps were taken as part of the preventive measures in different phases – The first stage started off with cleaning of 5 different river and streams of Guwahati. The second phase was cleaning of rain gutters and drain to prevent clogging.
The main objective was to increase the holding capacity of the drain and regulate the flow of water.
