A professor from Gauhati University has been suspended owing to inappropriate behaviour and pursuing sexual harassment. The professor has been taken into custody on September 29, by the reason of unwanted sexual text messages and intimidation.
As per the reports obtained, the professor has been carrying out his unprofessional behaviour for a very long time until a girl was molested. She was taken by fear and hid. The teachers have reported the same. There are screenshots of the conversations where he could be seen sending ungentlemanly and obscene pieces of information.
While speaking to ‘The North-Eastern Chronicle‘, one of the union members mentioned that “The authority had to take strict action. And, as we all know Gauhati University is a prominent University in Assam, it is very shameful for us as the incident has happened here. The authority and the police had to take strict actions against him and it should never happen again here.”
Given the following points, the students have demanded:
- A special committee should be formed to investigate the matter in which student representatives should also be included.
- Dr. Pandey shouldn’t be allowed to engage himself in any departmental activities or enter the department premises while the investigation is going on.
- If found guilty, strict actions should be taken by Gauhati University and terminate him immediately and there should be legal proceedings against him.
