Police arrest five accused, main accused still at large
Police have arrested five people in connection with the gang rape case, including Abdul Hamid, Imran Hussain, Abdul Jalil, Afazuddin, and Saidul Rahman. However, the main accused, Altaf, remains at large, and a manhunt has been launched to apprehend him. The victim, who hails from Dhemaji, had come to Tapabari char in search of a job, and the accused had promised her employment at a nearby construction site.

Police have arrested Abdul Hamid, Imran Hussain, Abdul Jalil, Afizuddin and Saidul Rahman. They brought her with the false promise of a job. They drugged the woman and raped all night. Later nine-member gang left her on road and fled.”
The police acted promptly on receiving the complaint and launched a manhunt to nab the culprits. The arrested accused has been remanded in police custody for further investigation. The incident has once again highlighted the rising cases of crimes against women in Assam and the need for stringent measures to curb such heinous acts.
