The Ministry of Home Affairs has suggested that 54 Chinese mobile applications, including the popular game Garena Free Fire, be banned. Surprisingly, Garena Free Fire is based in Singapore, and the developer is not from China.

It was one of the most downloaded games in India last year, and it had filled the void left by PUBG Mobile after it was banned in September 2020.

According to the reports of Indian Express, the app has already been removed from the Google Play Store and App Store in India.

What is his claim?

“These 54 apps allegedly obtain various critical permissions and collects sensitive user data. These collected real-time data are being misused and transmitted to servers located in hostile country,” the ministry said in a statement.

TikTok and other popular short video apps from China were also banned by government in 2020. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), according to sources, will formally issue a notification prohibiting the operation of these apps in India.
