CM Mamata Banerjee, made an announcement that Durja puja in the coming year will be celebrated from 10 days ahead.

During a meeting with Trinamool Congress Councilors in the state Mamata Banerjee announced that the celebration will begin 10 days ahead to mark UNESCO recognition.
UNESCO recognized “Durga Puja in Kolkata” as a ‘unique’ festival
UNESCO marked “Durga Puja in Kolkata” on the “Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity”.
CM Mamata Banerjee said, “This honor is the result of our determination, our perseverance… It is recognition of a unique festival like Durga Puja, which is unparalleled in the world.”
She further added, “It is also the success of the members of puja committees, who work so hard and with great passion.”
Durga Puja, is one of India’s grandest festivals. It is a multiple-day celebration varying from 6 days in some parts of the country to 10 days in others.
It celebrates the victory of good over evil as goddess Durga killed demon king Mahishasur. It holds great significance for the Bengali community. However, it is also celebrated, with much pomp, in other states like Odisha, Assam, Tripura, Bihar and Jharkhand.
