A professor at the Prestigious University of Delhi has been arrested for his alleged social media post in regard to the recent claims of a shivling found at the Gyanvapi Mosque in Varanasi.

According to reports of The India Express, an FIR was filed against the 50 year old professor, Ratan Lal who teaches History at the Hindu College under Delhi University. He has been alleged to have posted a picture of the structure and made objectionable comments on Tuesday.
The police reports said that Lal was first summoned for questioning and was arrested thereafter. A group of student’s Association gathered outside the police station in Maurice Nagar.
As per reports from the Police Department, ” a case was registered against Lal under IPC section 153-A and 295-A. The complaint was filed against him by a social worker on the night of Tuesday.
His post on social media went viral which generated widespread criticism and hate from all. As a result, he asked the Police for security as started receiving threats online.
As per reports from The Indian Express, Lal said, “I was not expecting threats and abuses for this statement. There is a long tradition of critique in Hinduism from Phule, Ravidas and Ambedkar. Here, I haven’t even critiqued it, it is just an observation. In our country, religious feelings get hurt over anything. What will people do, just put patti (bandage in your mouths)
