The IED was neutralized by NSG

Reportedly, a team of National Security Guard carried out a controlled explosion to deactivate the IED. Also, the fire officials said that they received the information about the placement of IED in the flower market at 10.19 am.

As per reports, around 1.5 kg of explosive material were also found. Which was a sizable quantity capable of dealing heavy damage.

The officials from the Special Cell of Delhi Police, NSG’s bomb detection and disposal team and fire tenders were also present at the spot.

Delhi Police said, “A case is being registered in the Delhi Police Special Cell under provisions of the Explosive Act.”

More details regarding the case will be available after the NSG conducts detailed analysis of the remnants of the explosive device.

The IED targeted the most busy area

According to India Today, the persons or group that planted the IED were targeting the busy Ghazipur flower market. This was done in order to stage a major terror attack before 26 January, Republic Day.

The bag with the IED was kept in such a way that it would cause maximum damage in a crowded place.

The NSG has taken samples of the explosive and will conduct a forensic examination to uncover how the IED was assembled. In their initial examination they found that the explosive is a nitrate mix. And also that the device could have been triggered using a clock or mobile phone.

Special Cell has pulled the video footage from 15 CCTV cameras in the vicinity of the market for further investigation.

Investigators are also trying to figure out how the IED reached the market and who is responsible behind it.
