The principal conspirator and creator of the ‘Bulli Bai’ app on Github has been arrested by the Delhi Police’s Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) team of the special cell. Niraj Bishnoi, a resident of Jorhat, Assam, has been named as the suspect. He has been placed in police custody for seven days.
To trace down and detain the alleged culprit, a team was formed under the supervision of IFSO unit DCP KPS Malhotra, ACP Raman Lamba, Inspector Vijendra, and Sub-Inspector Neeraj.
Creator of Bulli Bai admits
According to a report by India TV, during questioning, he admitted that he was the creator of the Bullibai app on Github. He also created the Twitter accounts @bullibai_ and others. He is a B.Tech (Computer Science) student at Bhopal’s Vellore Institute of Technology.
He also revealed that the Github account/app was created in November 2021 and that the app was updated in December 2021. The Twitter account was set up on December 31st.
He also said that he had set up another Twitter account, @Sage0x1, to tweet about the app. He was always keeping an eye on the news on social media. He had constructed a new Twitter account, @giyu44, and had stated that the ‘Slumbai’ police had detained the wrong person.
Suspension of Niraj from VIT
Niraj, a BTech student, was suspended by the Vellore Institute of Technology – VIT Bhopal on Thursday after he was apprehended by the Delhi Police’s IFSO special unit for his suspected participation in the Bulli Bai App case.
“Niraj Bishnoi, 20BCG10103 studying BTech since September 2020 via online has been arrested by Delhi Police in connection with his alleged involvement in Bulli Bai App,” VIT Bhopal claimed in an official order. As a result, Niraj Bishnoi has been suspended from the university with immediate effect until further notice, for bringing the university into shame and defaming the institute’s name.”
Cyber crime against Muslim women
According to sources, the app’s creator said he was against Muslim women and social media users, and that he used to target them. The defendant further stated that he had no remorse for his crimes. Previously, a complainant claimed that her photograph was uploaded via the Twitter account @bullibai_ and others, and a case FIR no. 01/22 was filed at the Cyber Police Station in the South East in response to her complaint.
Twitter has suspended the accounts, and the app has been deleted from the Github platform. South-East District received technical assistance. The case was extremely technical. The raw data analysis, as well as technical details, were carried out with the support of CERTIN, and the suspect was identified as being based in Jorhat, Assam.
