The Brahmaputra Board
The Brahmaputra Board was set up under the Ministry of Irrigation by the Government of India under an Act of Parliament called ‘The Brahmaputra Board Act, 1980 (46 of 1980).’
It was set up for planning and integrated implementation of measures for the control of floods and bank erosion in the Brahmaputra Valley and also for other concerned matters related with it.
The Board office started functioning with Headquarters at Guwahati with effect from 11th January 1982.
The Hon’ble Prime Minister during his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ urged the people to celebrate at least one river festival in a year.
In response to it the “Brahmaputra Utsav” is being organized by Brahmaputra Board with a motive to promote stakeholder engagement and ensure public participation.
It will also help in highlighting the significance of river Brahmaputra at river banks near Pasighat, Dibrugrah, Majuli, Kaliabor and Guwahati from 16th to 22nd December 2021.
The hope behind this initiative is also that people will learn to respect rivers and will encourage them to conserve and protect rivers.
